Nationally Recognized and Positioned for Change

At Fred Hutch Cancer Center, our efforts are guided by the brightest minds in science who have revolutionized the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancers and other diseases. Our organization is both nationally and internationally recognized for pioneering breakthroughs and delivering expert care.

We set the highest national standards and guidelines for cancer care while also providing those standards for the patients we care for. We are proud to be among the first eight National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cance Network.

Washington State's Only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center

Since opening in 1975, we are the only NCI-Designated comprehensive cancer center in Washington state and were the first in the Pacific Northwest. This is the NCI’s highest level of recognition which only 56 other centers have received. The more than 50 years of this designation prove Fred Hutch meets and continues to exceed the rigorous requirements set by the NCI as we commit to improving patients’ lives through compassionate care and innovative research.

Member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network

Fred Hutch is a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), an organization which develops and distributes the top national guidelines for cancer treatment and care. The NCCN is made up of 33 centers dedicated to cancer patient care, research and education. We not only follow NCCN standards to provide patients with effective, high-quality care, but our experts contribute to the guidelines.

Member of the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers

As a member of the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers, we are one of 10 of the nation’s top cancer centers dedicated to developing the best practices in cancer treatment and driving new research. This collaboration aims to expand the understanding of cancer, deliver better care, drive innovative therapies, and provide education.

U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Fred Hutch/University of Washington Medical Center has ranked among the top 50 cancer hospitals in the United States for more than a decade, according to U.S. News & World Report.
