Integrative Medicine

“I have seen how cancer can consume the mental and emotional space of patients, and it has opened my eyes to the importance of resilience and compassionate self-care. I have learned that patients have as much to teach me as I offer to them.”

— Madhavi

What brought you to oncology?

Through a combination of my cultural upbringing and my own need for healing, the field of oncology ended up being the right fit for me. It has taught me to live and to let go. I faced several different kinds of tests from life by the time I was 20 years old. My practice is connected to my personal experiences with struggle and the search for meaning.

I chose this profession to heal and rediscover purpose. Integrative medicine is about treating the whole person, because people are more than their disease.

How do you hope patients feel when they are in your care?

I want people to feel that they have been treated kindly, since that has been very important to me in my own health care and life experiences. As a provider, I aim to integrate the mind, body and spirit. I do that through a gentle curiosity where I meet people wherever they are. I strive to support healing by bringing together all aspects of a person’s life with care and compassion. I would like to show others how important it is to be kind to ourselves!

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
