Hematology

“I feel fulfilled when we can make a difference in how a patient feels so they can find enjoyment outside their illness. It is always beautiful to hear that we improved the quality of life for patients and their families.”

— Dr. Hegerova

How would you describe your approach to care?

My goal is to provide patients with the specialized knowledge and support to be informed and active participants in their care. I believe in implementing new therapies to develop the best solutions for patients.

Why should a patient receive care at Fred Hutch?

It is a great pleasure to work in a clinic built upon specialized expertise and a strong research foundation. The growth in treatment advances for blood disorders in recent years is very exciting. We apply these novel therapies with great outcomes for patients.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Nonmalignant hematology

I am a hematologist who sees patients at the Sloan Clinic. I am passionate about caring for patients with blood disorders and have an interest in how thrombosis and hemostasis impact women’s health.

I became interested in hematology when I saw my first blood smear. I enjoy solving mysteries, and the unique thing about hematology is you can assess symptoms and correlate them with what you see in the blood. It is exciting to be able to take the problem, run to the microscope and see the disease process. Once we understand what is causing the symptoms, we can best treat it.

My research interests include clinical trials to optimize therapies for nonmalignant blood conditions such as von Willebrand disease and cold agglutinin disease.
