Oral Medicine

“My goal is to work collaboratively and equip patients with all the facts and evidence so they can make informed decisions. I will always advocate for what’s in their best interest. I see every patient as a whole person, not their diagnosis.”

— Dr. Chung

What do you value about your work?

I genuinely care about patients’ well-being — not only their oral health, but also their overall experience during what is often a difficult time. I understand that many patients are dealing with serious or complex medical conditions, so it’s my goal to be a calm and compassionate presence. I take the time to listen, explain things clearly and involve patients in their care decisions.

A close friend of mine had a loved one with oral cancer, and this left a significant impression on me. I saw the need for a comprehensive, holistic approach that helps patients be their own advocates.

What is your approach to providing patient care?

My approach to patient care in dental oncology and oral medicine is grounded in compassion, precision and multidisciplinary collaboration. Since many patients are dealing with complex medical conditions including cancer, autoimmune diseases or chronic oral pain, it’s my goal to be both a clinical expert and a supportive partner. I work in a multidisciplinary manner to make sure each person receives coordinated, comprehensive care. My priority is to preserve oral function, reduce discomfort and improve quality of life.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Dental oncology, oral medicine

I am a dentist and oral (mouth) medicine specialist who sees patients at the Sloan Clinic. As an oral medicine specialist, I see patients who have oral GVHD, osteoradionecrosis, medication-related osteoradionecrosis of the jaw, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), oral complications from cancer treatment, and I also provide general and hospital dentistry.

I take time to thoroughly evaluate oral conditions related to disease and treatment, explain findings in a way that patients and families can understand, and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that align with their overall health goals.
