Dr. Raymond S.W. Yeung is a board-certified surgeon and researcher who cares for patients with liver and bile duct tumors at Fred Hutch and researches these diseases.

Background

Dr. Yeung devotes equal time to clinical care and translational research that focuses on different forms of liver cancers, including rare diseases such as fibrolamellar liver cancer. He is also developing platforms aimed to inform oncologists about drugs that work for individual tumors based on functional testing of these cancers using needle biopsies.

He is the founder of the UW Medicine Liver Tumor Clinic, the first multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. The Liver Tumor Clinic is a resource for all Fred Hutch patients with liver tumors, both benign and malignant. We have the expertise to evaluate and manage all types of liver tumors.

Dr. Yeung has a strong academic research presence at UW Medicine and has received local and national funding to support his research in liver cancer, biliary cancer and melanoma. His goal is to promote minimally invasive approaches to the treatment of liver cancer.

What drew you to your area of practice, and how do you approach providing patient care?

Management of liver and bile duct cancers remains a formidable medical and technical challenge. I have dedicated my career to better understanding these diseases and to formulating safe and sound therapeutic approaches that serve individual patients.

Even though surgery is what I do, surgery is not always the best treatment or the right option for you. I always work as a team with my patients, which allows me to provide you with the best and most compassionate care. Fred Hutch focuses on comprehensive care, with experts collaborating across many disciplines. We come together across specialties and share our knowledge to educate you and provide you with the latest and best treatment options. I’m excited by scientific creativity, so I personally track advances in science to make sure you have every option available to you.

I am a board-certified surgeon and founder of the UW Medicine Liver Tumor Clinic, the first multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.
