Dr. Robert Kaplan is an epidemiologist and population health scientist. He specializes in cardiometabolic diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and insulin-like growth factor-related outcomes; lifestyle factors that impact health, such as smoking, physical activity and sedentary behavior; and the influence of the human microbiome and metabolome on cardiometabolic diseases. He also has expertise in noncommunicable diseases and aging-related outcomes among adults with long-standing HIV infection and other infections, including hepatitis C. Dr. Kaplan is also interested in health disparities and the health of Hispanic/Latino populations; he, along with collaborators from six other institutes and research centers across the country, is part of the largest long-term study of Hispanics ever conducted in the U.S.
