About

Dr. Jennifer Huang is a board-certified oncologist and hematologist at Fred Hutch specializing in immunotherapy and blood cancers. She is also a researcher focusing on improving CAR T-cell therapy and developing better treatment strategies.

Background

Dr. Huang cares for patients with blood cancers such as lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She treats patients using advanced immunotherapies such as CAR T-cell therapy and works closely with her patients to navigate complex treatment options.

Dr. Huang leads research and collaborates on clinical trials and translational studies aimed at improving outcomes with CAR T-cell therapy. Her work focuses on combining therapies to enhance CAR T-cell effectiveness, understanding real-world patient outcomes, predicting and reducing treatment-related toxicities and studying how targeted drugs such as BTK inhibitors influence both the effectiveness and side effects of this therapy. Through this work, she seeks to better understand how immunotherapies work and to bring newer, safer and more effective treatments to patients.

Area of Clinical Practice
Immunotherapy, lymphoma

“Delivering excellent care starts with understanding who my patients are outside their diagnosis. I want to know what brings you joy and what your personal values are so we can work together to develop a treatment plan.”

— Dr. Huang

What do you value about your work?

I am committed to working with patients to provide the best care possible that also aligns with their personal values.

I enjoy getting to know my patients — their loved ones, their pets, their hobbies. It is extremely rewarding to see patients feeling better and returning to enjoying life after initially meeting them when they are experiencing symptoms impacting their daily function. It is also rewarding to see patients do well due to discoveries stemming from clinical and translational research.

What brought you to oncology?

I was drawn to oncology, and lymphoma and cellular therapy in particular, because of the honor and privilege it is to walk alongside patients during a very challenging chapter of their lives. CAR T-cell therapy has revolutionized the treatment of lymphoma, and I hope to advance our collective knowledge in how to further improve its safety and efficacy so patients can return to their everyday lives.

These awards support high-risk/high-reward, cancer-focused projects led by young investigators at Fred Hutch or UW Medicine.

American Society of Clinical Oncology, Young Investigator Award, 2025
This award provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians and researchers. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
