About

Dr. Brie Chun is a board-certified physician and researcher at Fred Hutch who provides care for people with breast cancer. She leads research on how the immune system interacts with breast tumors.

Background

Dr. Chun’s main clinical focus is breast cancer. She also studies the immunobiology, seeking to understand how the immune system responds to breast cancer.

Her research explores why and how the immune system can help fight cancer in some cases while it doesn’t in others, and how those differences might be used to guide treatment. By understanding these nuances, she aims to make immune-based treatments more precisely administered.

Dr. Chun is also a principal investigator in the University of Washington’s Cancer Vaccine Institute.

Area of Clinical Practice
Breast cancer

“Caring for patients with breast cancer is a great honor. I want patients to see me as a provider who is easy to communicate with and who can be counted on to understand their unique perspectives.”

— Dr. Chun

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

It’s my job to do the medical part, which is to treat patients and their cancer safely and help them get through all the treatment that is recommended. I'm hoping I can also help patients and their loved ones understand the “why” behind these recommendations, so it feels like a partnership.

What do you value about your work?

I love practicing medicine, and I love being an oncologist. What's special about breast cancer care is we can really form long-term relationships with patients. I value helping people through times that are tough and educating them about their disease so they can live fulfilling and full lives through it.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians and researchers. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
