Jennifer Christophel Lichti, MSW, LICSW, APHSW-C

I joined Fred Hutch Cancer Center in June 2024 as the first clinical social worker with the palliative care team. I see patients at Fred Hutch South Lake Union Clinic.

I have spent over 15 years of my career developing a specialty in palliative care social work as a member of interdisciplinary teams situated in hospitals and outpatient care settings, and serving people at any age or stage of illness. I help optimize a patient’s quality of life by attending to their emotional, social and psychological symptoms in close collaboration with my palliative care medical, spiritual care and pharmacist teammates.

I became a social worker because of the profession’s commitment to help people navigate challenges by caring for the individual in the context of family and larger systems that impact their lives. My practice is grounded in patient/family strengths and self-determination, and are aligned with the values and ethical standards of social work practice.

Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, hiking and traveling to explore new places.

Patient Care Philosophy

My approach to care is primarily guided by my patient’s identification of goals for quality of life. I use therapeutic interventions rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, counseling for grief/loss, strengths-based and meaning-centered approaches that are trauma-informed and foster equitable access to resources, services and support.
