Portrait of Mythili Merchant, MS, CGC.

I have been at Fred Hutch since 2024 and provide genetic counseling for a variety of hereditary cancer syndromes at the Sloan Clinic and UW Medical Center – Northwest.

My passion for cancer genetic counseling and testing is driven by its immense potential to support proactive, preventive care, and improve health outcomes.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a genetic counselor is the opportunity to connect with patients, learn about their experiences, and support them through periods of uncertainty. I have a special interest in increasing access to genetic counseling services for underrepresented populations, both nationally and globally.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, spending time in nature, discovering new cafes and restaurants, and hanging out with my kitty.

Patient Care Philosophy

I believe that each person brings unique life experiences that shape their perspective and decision-making. A core tenet of my patient care philosophy is ensuring patients feel seen, heard, and empowered to make choices that reflect their individual values and goals.

Everyone comes to genetic counseling with different levels of genetics knowledge and genetic concepts can feel overwhelming to those with limited prior exposure. I believe in meeting patients where they are at and working together to build from there.
