Obliteride returns Aug. 9 with more than 5,000 participants powering cancer breakthroughs

Seattle — July 31, 2025 — Fred Hutch Cancer Center’s summer fundraising event, Obliteride, rolls though Seattle on August 9, rallying thousands to ride, run and walk in support of breakthrough cancer research. Now in its 13th year, the community-powered bike ride and 5K walk/run aims to surpass 5,000 participants.

“We know that every person has their own reason to fundraise for groundbreaking advances in treatment, care and cures,” said Tracy Evans, Obliteride’s senior executive director. “Obliteride unites thousands of people in a powerful show of commitment to honor loved ones and take action to help cure cancer faster.”

Every dollar participants raise fuels scientific discovery at Fred Hutch, thanks to event sponsors and supporters.

Obliteriders fundraise for the area of work at Fred Hutch that is the most meaningful to them, including specific disease area, program, researcher or clinician. Participants can choose to ride a 25-, 50- or 100-mile bike route, complete a 5K walk/run, or participate virtually. Volunteer options are also available.

“Obliteride is a phenomenal weekend of connection and heart that also fuels some of Fred Hutch’s boldest and most innovative ideas,” said Kelly O’Brien, vice president of Philanthropy. “This community is extraordinary. As Fred Hutch celebrates our 50th Anniversary this year, we are honored by their life-changing impact and inspired by what we can do together as we look beyond today’s treatments to a new era of discovery.”

In 2024, Obliteride raised more than $9 million for research at Fred Hutch, contributing to more than $58 million raised since 2013. These funds have fueled urgently needed advances in cancer prevention; treatment approaches for breast, colon, pancreatic, prostate and other cancers; precision oncology; data science; and immunotherapy.

As part of Obliteride Weekend, participants are invited to a Friday night party at Gas Works Park on Aug. 8, featuring a catered dinner, live entertainment from G. Love & Special Sauce, and a chance to connect with other participants. The main event on Aug. 9 begins at 6:30 a.m. with route start times based on participation type and distance. The family-friendly 5K begins at 8:00 a.m. All routes begin at the University of Washington and end with a finish-line celebration at Gas Works Park.

Registration will remain open until Friday Aug. 8. All are invited to ride, walk, run, or volunteer. To learn more, sign up, or donate, visit Obliteride.org.
