Dr. Hans-Peter Kiem receives ASGCT mentorship award

Fred Hutch gene therapy expert views mentorship as a lifelong commitment

Dr. Hans-Peter Kiem, recent recipient of the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy's George Stamatoyannopoulos Mentorship Award, discusses why mentorship programs are important in a scientific research and medical setting.

Hans-Peter Kiem, MD, PhD, who holds the Stephanus Family Endowed Chair for Cell and Gene Therapy, has been awarded the 2026 George Stamatoyannopoulos Mentorship Award by the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy. The award recognizes people for their contributions to mentorship, education, training or support of students, medical residents, fellows, trainees or other early-career professionals.

Dr. Kiem is honored for his numerous contributions to the mentorship and training of students and early-career professionals through his laboratory and his leadership role within the organization, according to ASGCT.

Dr. Kiem will receive a plaque and a $5,000 honorarium.
