Medical Oncology

“One of the best parts of my job is the opportunity to make your day better.”

— Susan

Why do you care for patients who participate in clinical trials?

My husband was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2000. He participated in a clinical trial at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and everyone involved was not only brilliant and professional but also very kind. Thanks to the people who cared for him and the treatment he received, he is alive and well today. I decided to work with patients involved in clinical trials at Fred Hutch so that I could be part of a team that offers the same high level of care that my husband received.

What do you want patients to know about working with you?

I pride myself on bringing a compassionate, personalized approach to your care. Every patient is unique, and I strive to learn as much about you as I can while sharing my knowledge about your disease and your treatment in a way that is useful and clear. Having been in practice for many years, I enjoy the opportunity to work closely with patients who have cancer, and I look forward to working with you.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Phase 1 clinical trials

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides disease and symptom management for patients participating in Phase 1 clinical trials. These trials test novel cancer therapies in people for the first time. They can be a good option for those who have advanced cancers that have stopped responding to conventional treatments. Currently, I work with patients who have a variety of disease types, including bladder cancer, breast cancer, sarcomas and more. In addition to a doctorate in nursing practice, my background includes several years of experience working in hematology and general oncology.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
