Hematology-Oncology

“I hope patients always feel comfortable to ask questions and express their emotions around me.”

— Megan

What brought you to oncology?

My mom was a pulmonary and critical care physician, and this is what initially drew me to becoming a physician assistant. Then, when I was in school, she was diagnosed with cancer, so this was a catalyst for me wanting to focus on oncology. When she was going through treatment, there were certain things we family members thought could be better, and I wanted to contribute. I value each interaction with patients and their family members. We see people on some of their most vulnerable days.

How do you like to approach working with patients?

I want to put patients at ease while offering the best care possible. Everyone here is very approachable and kind, across all specialties, and this creates a culture of camaraderie and determining shared goals. I don't think this necessarily exists everywhere.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Acute care oncology, acute clinical evaluation

I am a certified physician assistant who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center - Montlake.

I see patients in the ACE clinic, or Acute Clinical Evaluation clinic. We are an acute care team that functions as an urgent care for patients at Fred Hutch. We see patients for acute and urgent concerns, working with their primary teams to provide better same day access to help keep patients out of the emergency room.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
