Abbie Nauss is a certified physician assistant at Fred Hutch who cares for patients with breast conditions and breast cancer.

Area of Clinical Practice
Breast oncology

“I believe good care begins with truly listening to patients. My priority is helping you feel supported, heard and comfortable asking questions, while making sure you understand your treatment and feel confident in the decisions we make together.”

—  Abbie

What is your approach to patient care?

I want patients to know that I see them as a whole person, not just as someone with breast cancer. I aspire to create an environment where you feel comfortable being honest about what you are going through, whether that means talking about treatment, your fears or simply how life is outside of the clinic. Getting to know you on a personal level and being able to support you during this experience means a lot to me.

I love hearing about what matters to you, what motivates you and the people and experiences that have shaped who you are today. These conversations remind me that while a cancer diagnosis is an important part of someone’s life, it is not the only story.

What brought you to oncology?

I was interested in oncology from a young age, and I knew early on that I wanted to build my career in this field. I was especially drawn to breast oncology because of the opportunity to care for patients through such a personal and life-changing experience. It is incredibly meaningful to me to support patients through difficult moments, celebrate the good ones and be part of their experience.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
