About

Nichole Malecki is a physician assistant at Fred Hutch who sees patients for blood and marrow transplantation and immunotherapy.

Area of Clinical Practice
Blood and marrow transplantation, immunology and cellular therapy

“I approach every patient as an individual, taking the time to listen and understand what matters most to you and making sure you feel heard and supported. I believe the best care comes from working together, so I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and playing an active part in decisions about your care.”

— Nichole

How have you been personally impacted by cancer?

Both my grandmother and a close friend had breast cancer. Watching those I care about navigate a cancer diagnosis gave me a deeper appreciation for how much the experience affects not only the patient, but also the people who love and support you. It has shaped the way I approach patients by reminding me to see the person beyond your diagnosis, to listen closely and to recognize the importance of compassion, hope and simply being present during both difficult and joyful moments.

I know cancer treatment, including blood and marrow transplantation, can feel overwhelming, and I strive to explain things clearly while being a steady and compassionate presence throughout your experience.

Why did you decide to specialize in blood and marrow transplantation and immunotherapy?

I chose this specialty because I was drawn to the combination of complex medicine, rapidly evolving treatments and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients during some of the most challenging times of your lives.

During my clinical rotation at Fred Hutch, I had the opportunity to care for patients undergoing cellular therapies, such as CAR T-cell therapy, and quickly became fascinated by the science behind these treatments and their potential to transform outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancies. I value the collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to care and the opportunity for continual learning in a field that is constantly advancing.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
