— Dr. Ikeguchi

How do you approach providing patient care?

I approach the care of each patient starting with your unique circumstances. I evaluate your disease type, stage, prior therapies and prognosis, but I also aim to learn about your background and goals. I synthesize all this information to make the recommendations that I believe are most aligned, and I strive to make sure you understand the reasoning.

Why did you decide to focus on melanoma?

I initially began treating melanoma because management of rare cancers was needed when I returned to academic medicine after several years in private practice. This portfolio initially included sarcoma and malignant glioma, but I increasingly focused on melanoma since effective treatments were just being developed at the time. I was drawn to harnessing the immune system to fight cancer during my initial medical education, and it is extremely gratifying all these years later to be in a field that accomplishes exactly that.
