About

Dr. Timothy Genovese is a rehabilitation medicine physician at Fred Hutch who cares for patients before, during and after cancer treatment.

Area of Clinical Practice
Cancer rehabilitation medicine

“Cancer rehabilitation is about helping people maintain function and quality of life and return to the activities that matter most to you. I find it especially rewarding to help you get back to what you value, whether that means hiking, playing sports, working or spending time with loved ones.”

— Dr. Genovese

What would you like patients to know about you?

I see patients at any point in the cancer care experience, from before treatment begins, through active treatment and into post-treatment survivorship. I take the time to understand who you are, how your daily life has changed and what you hope to get back to doing. I enjoy getting to know patients and families over time and working together toward meaningful goals. I value open communication and want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns and telling me both what is working and what is not. Helping someone return to an activity they value is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

How do you approach providing patient care?

My approach to care is thoughtful, collaborative and centered on what matters most to you. I start by listening to how cancer and its treatment have affected your daily life and understanding the activities you want to maintain or return to. Together, we develop a personalized rehabilitation plan that supports those goals, whether they involve exercise, work or time with loved ones.

I emphasize patient education, explaining symptoms and treatment options so you can make an informed decision about your care. Clear communication with the rest of the oncology team, including therapists and other providers, helps keep rehabilitation coordinated with each patient’s broader treatment plan. My goal is to help patients maintain or regain function, support your independence and improve your quality of life throughout cancer care.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
