“I believe trust and communication are the cornerstones of good patient care. I strive to understand who each patient is as a person, not just your disease. While communicating about your treatment plan, I also want to understand your values, goals and what motivates you.”

— Katie

What brought you to oncology?

Throughout my time in medicine, I have been drawn to oncology as a field. It gives me the opportunity to build trusting relationships with patients while guiding them through complex treatments and some of the most challenging moments of their lives. I love to learn, and oncology demands lifelong learning, curiosity and adaptability as treatments continue to evolve. Being part of an institution that is continually advancing cancer treatment through research while keeping patients at the center of that work is incredibly meaningful to me.

I value collaboration and recognize that the best outcomes come from working closely with patients, families and the entire health care team. I believe clear communication and education are essential to building trust and helping you feel empowered in your care.

What is your favorite memory of working with a patient?

Some of my favorite memories of working with patients have come from educational visits. I value having the time to sit down and talk with patients, getting to know you and answering your questions. There is something incredibly fulfilling about having someone come in feeling anxious or overwhelmed and being able to see them leave with a little less weight on their shoulders.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
