“While there are many uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis, I hope to lessen the burden by serving as a trusted partner throughout your care.”

— Kyle

What is your approach to patient care and how have you been personally impacted by cancer?

Be human. I personally find that being relatable, maintaining a sense of humor, using metaphor to explain things and being the same person at work that you would meet in the wild makes the interaction better for both me and my patients.

My wife has been a patient at Fred Hutch. Having experienced cancer care as the spouse of a patient helps me appreciate the vulnerability of patients and their families. It is all so incredibly overwhelming. Knowing this, and having felt it all firsthand, reminds me to be present and clear when talking with my patients. I always take a lot of time to listen, understand and educate people.

What brought you to oncology?

After nearly a decade in emergency medicine, I wanted to apply my acute care experience to a specialty where I could assist oncology patients with urgent and unique needs. Being part of a team that helps patients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives while helping them continue their treatment safely is especially rewarding.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
