Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Immediate Past Chairman Carl Behnke Recognized as a Junior Achievement Laureate

SEATTLE — May 8, 2017 — Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Immediate Past Chairman and member of the Board of Directors Carl Behnke received a “Laureate” award from the Washington state chapter of Junior Achievement. The award was presented to Behnke at the organization’s Puget Sound Business Hall of Fame event, held at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront on May 4.

The Junior Achievement Puget Sound Business Hall of Fame, held annually in partnership with the Puget Sound Business Journal, celebrates the accomplishments of individuals who have made a lasting impact on business in Washington State. This annual event also celebrates the continuing success of Junior Achievement in improving the quality of young people’s lives by sharing the opportunities of free enterprise. This year's honored laureates include Carl Behnke, Artie Buerk, Donald P. Nielsen, and Judith Runstad.

The Junior Achievement Laureate awards recognize business excellence, character, vision, and innovation – qualities that exemplify the spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Laureates have been selected by an independent committee comprised of some of the region’s top business leaders and Washington state historians, and is chaired by Emory Thomas, Publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Behnke joined the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Board in 2006 and provided additional leadership as Chairman of the Board from 2014-2016. Behnke has also served as chairman or president of many other community organizations including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (“Fred Hutch”), Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, Seattle‐King County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Junior Achievement of Western Washington, PONCHO, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the Rainier Club. He has also served as a trustee of the University of Puget Sound for more than 25 years.

“The more I volunteered,” Behnke notes simply, “the more I became aware of the need for business leaders in the non‐profit sector.”
