Trainee Travel Stipends and Registration Fee Waivers

The Infectious Disease Sciences Program of Fred Hutch is committed to investing in the future of infectious disease research and patient care. Therefore, we have implemented a program to assist trainees who plan to attend the 5th Symposium on Infectious Diseases in the Immunocompromised Host on May 10 - 12, 2027 in Seattle, WA USA.

  • Applicants should submit an abstract proposal. Accepted abstracts will be awarded poster presentations during the poster sessions. The best abstracts will be awarded a trainee abstract lightning talk.
  • Qualified trainees can be at any stage of their training and education, including medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, or other related research/medical training programs, and must be granted time to attend the symposium.
  • Local trainees in the greater Seattle area (who do not require travel support and a hotel room) are welcome to apply to receive a registration fee waiver and invitation to the mentor-mentee dinners.
  • Trainees from racial and ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in health sciences and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Faculty members and established career professionals are not eligible for the travel stipend or registration fee waiver, but may submit an abstract.

The travel stipend covers three nights' lodging at a host hotel, round trip economy airfare, registration for the two-and-a-half day symposium, plus breakfast, lunch and dinner on most days. Additional expenses are the responsibility of the attendee or their institution.

All stipend recipients will be invited to attend a dinner with one or more leading researchers to learn, engage and build new mentor-mentee relationships. Depending on availability, trainees in all medical training pathways or who were not awarded stipends will be considered for these dinners on a waitlist basis, available for sign up during registration.
