Breast Cancer Initiative 2.5 (BCI2.5)

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women worldwide. An estimated 5.8 million women will die from breast cancer by 2025, with a disproportionate number of these deaths occurring in low-resource settings. Higher breast cancer case fatality rates in low-resource settings have been attributed to a lack of awareness regarding the benefits of early detection and treatment, late-stage diagnosis and limited access to appropriate care. 

BCI2.5 is exploring innovative ways to implement affordable, appropriate, acceptable and feasible evidence-based strategies.

We’re identifying, documenting and fostering dissemination of new and innovative approaches to the delivery of breast health care in low-resource settings. Part of our success lies in our collaboration with partners to make the best use of available resources to provide technical expertise and promote evidence-based care models for early detection, diagnosis, treatment and supportive care that can be scaled up when and where needed. Our initiative pursues an approach that capitalizes on the capabilities of the organizing partners, aligns with WHO resolutions, addresses the global need and adapts to each region’s unique situation.
