We are thrilled to announce that effective Oct. 1, the Fred Hutch license plate is available to order by visiting any Washington State Department of Licensing office or by downloading the application and submitting it via US mail. This is your opportunity to support cancer research in a unique way that accelerates life-saving innovative research. For each set of Fred Hutch plates sold, $28 will fuel our scientist’s research to end cancer and related diseases once and for all.

How do I purchase Fred Hutch plates?

Complete the application and mail to Vehicle Licensing, Department of Licensing, PO Box 9909, Olympia, WA 98507-8500, or take it to a licensing office. It’s that easy.

How much does the new plate cost?

The set of two (2) license plates (front and back of one vehicle) costs $72.25 for passenger vehicles and $54.75 for a motorcycle. However, please note that total costs and fees may vary depending on your vehicle. Contact your local licensing office for specific fees.

Do I have to wait until my tab renewal to get a Fred Hutch plate?

No. You can purchase a Fred Hutch plate at any time. A yearly plate renewal fee will apply.

How much of the special plate registration fee is directed to Fred Hutch?

For each set of plates sold, $28 goes directly to fund research.

What happens when I renew my vanity plate each year?

Each year you renew your vanity plate an additional $28 will go towards funding research at the Hutch.

What will my new plate number be?

Unless you request personalized plates, your new number will be assigned by the DOL computer system. Plates are assigned in numerical order when a transaction is finalized.

How do I personalize my plates?

Check out the DOL’s personalized plate search to see if your preference is available. You may personalize your plate with up to seven characters (6 characters for motorcycles), including letters, numbers, dashes and spaces. No unusual characters (&, !, @ , +, #, etc.)

Do I need to work at Fred Hutch to purchase a plate?

No. Anybody and everybody can purchase Fred Hutch plates.

Can I get a Fred Hutch plate for my motorcycle or scooter?


When will I receive my Fred Hutch plates?

The plates are mailed to the registered owner within two business days of purchase.

Can I keep my plate when I sell my car?

Yes! These plates may be transferred to your new vehicle. Be sure to register your new car and existing plates with the DOL.
