Ed Orlosky is a survivor of esophageal cancer, which forms in tissues lining the esophagus (the muscular tube through which food passes from the throat to the stomach). The National Cancer Institute estimated more than 16,000 new cases of esophageal cancer in the United States in 2008.
Ed was diagnosed in February 2006 at the age of 67. His treatment included chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Ed came to the Survivorship Program's MOST clinic, accompanied by his wife, approximately two years after completing cancer treatment. During Ed's visit he discussed coping strategies for the long-term effects resulting from his cancer treatment. Ed had additional questions that were specific to digestion.
