Beti Thompson of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center elected to Washington State Academy of Sciences

Dr. Beti Thompson, a behavioral scientist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, is among 37 new members of the Washington State Academy of Sciences.

Thompson, who was elected by the WSAS membership, leads a research group in designing and implementing community approaches to reducing cancer and other health disparities in minority and other underserved populations, both in the U.S. and abroad. She is also a University of Washington professor in the School of Public Health.

Other WSAS members from the Center include Drs. Bob Eisenman, Dan Gottschling, Mark Groudine, Lee Hartwell and Ross Prentice.

The Academy provides expert scientific and engineering analysis to inform public policy-making and works to increase the role and visibility of science in the state.

Induction of new members will take place Sept. 20 during the Academy’s fifth annual meeting at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, bringing the total number of active WSAS members to 185.
