Samir Hanash will head multi-institutional effort to find biomarkers for early detection of lung cancer in people who have never smoked

NCI's Early Detection Research Network (EDRN) and the Canary Foundation will each provide initial funding of $1 million for a study to better understand biomarkers for lung cancer that develops in people who have never smoked. Dr. Samir Hanash of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Public Health Sciences Division is the team leader for Canary Foundation-funded lung-cancer projects. He also serves as principal investigator for two of the nine studies. Dr. Muneesh Tewari of the Human Biology Division will also lead a study.
