For patients who choose ‘watch and wait,’ putting off treatment can be a relief — and a source of stress

For certain slow-growing cancers, doctors recommend a “watch and wait” approach, also known as active surveillance, rather than aggressive early treatment. But it can be stressful for patients to be told they have cancer in the same breath as a recommendation against immediate treatment.
