Research Interests

  • Statistical and computational methods for bioinformatics applications
  • Statistical modeling for genome sequence analysis
  • Frequentist, Bayesian, and Dempster-Shafer statistical modeling frameworks
  • The interface between computer science, statistics, and molecular biology, such as development of new informatics methods in genomics and post-genomics

Teaching and Mentoring Interests

  • Workshops and courses on statistics, sieve analysis, and profile HMMs
  • Proactive students with strong computational and/or statistical skills and a desire to work in an applied bioinformatics setting

  • Sieve analysis of HIV vaccine trials
  • Methods for parameter estimation of profile hidden Markov models of genomic sequence families
  • Nonparametric Dempster-Shafer models
  • Dilution assay copy number identification
