The majority of the research conducted within the Epidemiology Program can be grouped into two categories: 1) studies of etiology, and 2) studies of cancer survivors.
- Etiological studies investigate the origins of disease. Our goal is to identify factors that increase the risk of developing cancer and other diseases so that appropriate prevention behavior can be advocated and the spread of sickness minimized.
- Studies of cancer survivors are of growing interest within the program. We aim to increase the quality of life for patients diagnosed with cancer by assessing what factors affect the risk of recurrence and mortality, as well as evaluating strategies aimed at encouraging a positive outlook and maximized level of comfort.
