SEP School Year Workshop: GMO PCR

Genetically Modified Organism PCR Protocol

Science Education Partnership hosts several School Year Workshops for science teachers. The first workshop for the 2021-2022 school year will be on our genetically modified organisms PCR protocol (GMO PCR).

In this lab teachers and students can extract DNA from their own corn or soy food products to test for two common genes that are used to genetically modify corn and soy. This protocol multiplexes two sets of primers to amplify two different genes in the same reaction unlike our other PCR protocols that only use one set of primers.

The workshop will be held on Friday, November 5th 4-6pm and Saturday November 6th 9am - 12pm.
