Pediatric Moving Beyond Cancer to Wellness 2012

Thank you to those who were able to attend our third pediatric Moving Beyond Cancer to Wellness event on Saturday, Ocotber 27, 2012. This free event featured featured breakout sessions led by experts in the fields of nutrition, insurance coverage, transitions to adulthood, fertility and reproductive issues, cognitive function and school issues after cancer, emotional and mental health, late effects from cancer treatment, and survivor's only networking and support.

The event was attended by over 75 individuals affected by cancer. The post-event evaluations reflected overwhelmingly positive impressions; requests and comments will be considered in planning future events.

Here is what some guests had to say when asked "what did you like best about the Moving Beyond Cancer to Wellness event?"

·         "Hearing what parents or survivors had to say about their own experiences. Realization of complication with medical coverage into adulthood with cancer or as a survivor."

·         "Structure of the event and breakout sessions. I was unsure if this workshop would be applicable to my daughter and me (she was diagnosed at 16months and is currently 18 years old) but found it very interesting. The insurance session was very informative! Loved the positive attitude of the patient panel."

·         "I was able to learn more about my future and am able to prepare myself for what’s coming."

·         "It was helpful to learn that there is an increased emphasis on follow-up care especially once cancer survivors become adults and are no longer under the care of Children’s. It’s quite overwhelming to navigate the medical world on one’s own for the young adult who is a cancer survivor."

·         "I enjoyed the educational information that I received that could potentially help me in school."
