Human Biology affiliate Evan Eichler named HHMI investigator

July 7, 2005

Dr. Evan Eichler, associate professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington and an affiliate member of the Human Biology Division, was named an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in March.

An expert in analyzing chromosome features known as genomic duplications, Eichler combines computational and experimental techniques to study the role of duplicated regions during the course of human evolution. The work may uncover specific duplicated regions that are linked to inherited conditions, such as congenital birth defects and mental disability.

Eichler is also the recipient of the Basil O'Connor Young Investigator Award from the March of Dimes and a Distinguished Human Genome Postdoctoral Fellowship.
