McTiernan, Guenthoer awarded Komen grants for breast cancer research

Anne McTiernan's $250,000 grant extends her vitamin D work; Jamie Guenthoer to develop early detection blood test with $180,000 award

Drs. Anne McTiernan and Jamie Guenthoer of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center recently garnered grants from Susan G. Komen for the Cure, part of the organization's $58 million in new research funding for 2012.

Hanash wins Komen grant for breast cancer blood test

The $599,999 award supports research to develop companion test to mammograms for increased accuracy and earlier detection

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Dr. Samir Hanash, Public Health Sciences Division, is the recipient of $599,999 from the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The grant supports the development of a blood test that would be a companion to mammograms but more accurate in detecting breast cancer at an early stage.

Breast health summit follows ASCO in Chicago

International summit, June 9-11, will address optimization of breast health care delivery in limited-resource countries

The Breast Health Global Initiative and the Latin American & Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology will convene a BHGI Global Summit on International Breast Health June 9-11 in Chicago. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Susan G. Komen for the Cure co-sponsor the Breast Health Global Initiative.
