2017 Retreat

The Human Biology Retreat was a two-day event this year, held on September 14-15, 2017 at Islandwood on Bainbridge Island, Washington. It was well attended with over 175 participants including faculty, postdocs, lab and administrative staff, and current and incoming graduate students.

Over the course of the two days,  participants heard faculty members share their research interests and accomplishments, as well as hear from our key note speakers Dr. Suzanne Simard from the University of British Columbia and Dr. David Baker from the University of Washington.  On the first day participants had the choice of going on a docent-led hike that explored Islandwood’s scenic property or hanging back to relax and play lawn games. The first day ended with a poster session featuring over 50 posters that was followed by a reception. Attendees had the opportunity to vote on their favorite posters, and the top three winners were announced at the conclusion of the retreat.
