Friends of the Hutch

Friends of the Hutch (formerly the Broadmoor-Washington Park Guild) was established in 1975 by a group of neighborhood women that included Charlee Hutchinson Reed, daughter of Dr. William B. Hutchinson, the founder of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The committee has maintained a dynamic and dedicated membership; the daughters of some of the original members are now adding their enthusiasm to the work of the committee.

Activities

The annual Shore Run/Walk, one of Seattleā€™s most family-friendly and scenic events, is the committee's showcase fundraiser. With a picturesque route winding along the shore of Lake Washington, the Shore Run/Walk draws thousands of participants annually, from elite runners to casual joggers and walkers. Individual events include a 10K Run from Ferdinand Park to Madison Park, a 5K Run/Walk from Leschi Park to Madison Park and a Half-Mile Kids' Run.

Over the past 35 years the Shore Run/Walk has raised $2.6 million for cancer research, with more than 2,800 runners and walkers participating annually. The organizational work of the event is managed by various chairs within the committee.
