E. Donnall Thomas Medal of Achievement

The E. Donnall Thomas Medal of Achievement is named for the late Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, the father of bone-marrow transplantation who won the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1990. Throughout his career at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Dr. Thomas dedicated his life to bringing about revolutionary changes in the treatment of blood cancers, using compassion, perseverance and creativity as his guide. In his honor, The Thomas Medal has been given over the years to community leaders and businesses whose civic engagement focuses on pursuing excellence to better our world.
